UX50 Easter Egg: Have You Seen This Man?
Posted by: nate

Sign of the Apocalypse Crazy little January 1st easter egg appeared on my UX50 (thanks to a heads-up from mattyy at ClieSource): a little fiddling with the time and a soft-reset cause this man to appear in the settings screen for a fleeting moment, holding what appears to be a driver's license or some sort of ID. Who is this guy? Swag for the first person to positively identify this man and post his name here in the comments section.

Nate, I haven't tried this egg out yet, but I just wanted to say thanks for your review. I got a UX50 for Christmas and I love it so far.

I have seen him. (In person!) (Score: 1)

That's almost definitely Steve Sakoman, former Chief Product Officer (or was it CTO?) at PalmSource, and currently vice president at Apple. Steve has a long career in the industry, including important contributions to Apple, Be, SGI, and (of course) Palm.

I'm not sure when the easter egg photo was taken, but I'd guess it was during one of Sakoman-san's many visits to Sony Japan during his time at PalmSource steering development of Palm OS 5 (on which the UX50 is based). I haven't found very many other photos of Steve online, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Here's one that seems to capture his broad grin (and equally broad beard) pretty well.

He was a beloved leader PalmSource and at Be (where I first met him). I hope he's having the same positive effect back at Apple.
