Tim Slagle of DC Dorkbot writes:
Overstock.com has a *six pack* of Mattel Juice Box Personal Media Players for US $21.99 with $1 shipping. There are 12% off coupons around that make the shipped price $20.35. Search Google for "overstock coupon."
The Juice Box apparently runs uC Linux internally and there is lots of hacking info available here:
eLinux Wiki Juice Box Page
Make LCD Frame Flickr Pool
Juice Box item on LinuxDevices with resource links
Juice Box post and discussion on /.
The Juice Box comes with the SD card adaptor. If anyone needs a bunch of small LCD screens for a project, this may be the way to go. Can't afford not to buy them at this price!

Oooh, this is tasty. The mp3/jpg kits are something like five bucks on ebay. the elinux link is slammed right now. My office door has a small narrow window. I'm going to install one of these as if it's a security cam looking into my office, but then photoshop the interior image so weird things are going on. Or maybe just put in a pic of my office, all cleaned up.

Also: It looks like they raised their prices during the day today, ending at $26 for 6. Gougin' bastards. |

"The Juice Box comes with the SD card adaptor."
Nope... just got my order today. You'll need to hack the included cartridge into one, or buy the adapter on ebay, etc...

Not only is there no SD adapter, but the 'chip' included with each Juicebox is a dummy cartridge - just a plastic shell with no actual circuitry inside.
Any hacking done on these babies will need to bootstrap from zero.
Oy! I've got six of these silly things. I know they were cheap, but what am I going to do with them all? :) |
