Campy and obscure 60's hero Animal Man has been revived. Buddy (Animal Man) Baker discovers that he is just a character in a comic book and the story's writer, Grant Morrison, is portrayed within the context of the story as God. Mushroom ingestion, alternate reality travel, and tapping into and attempting to understand earth's morphogenetic field (from whence Buddy derives his paranormal abilities) are examples of this comic's subject matter. The series' second writer, Peter Milligan, gave Buddy a temporary sidekick who spoke in a Burroughs' cut-up style, and the character looked the same way he spoke.
