Wheeled luggage has been a godsend for baggage-laden travelers the world over. Unfortunately, the cheapo wheels and often non-existant suspension is hell on any computers you may have stuffed into the ol' Samsonite. Brenthaven, our favorite computer luggage maker, has addressed this problem with their new Mobile Urban case.

The Mobile Urban measures 13-3/4" x 15-3/4" x 8-1/4" and weighs 9.1 lbs. It's basically one of Brenthaven's UrbanBackpack cases with a retractable handle and a set of rollerblade wheels. But, of course, Brenthaven never does anything half-assed. Their SoftDrive suspention system is designed to give your computer and peripherals the smoothest ride possible. The wheels have over an inch of travel inside of their housing, so no matter how hefty your laptop and other gear is (within reason, of course), the Mobile Urban can handle it in style.

The Mobile Urban has three main compartments: one organizer compartment (for pens, media, cell phone, etc), one for the computer and files/papers, and one that houses the retractable handle. Because of the space taken up by the the handle, there is, unfortunately, less space for gear, but hopefully, with computers and peripherals shrinking is size (gawd, I remember in the bad ol' days, traveling with a Mac SE and a 14.4 external modem!), you should be able to fit everything.

Of course, the other question you have to ask yourself is whether a wheeled computer bag, in addition to a piece of wheeled luggage for clothing, is manageable. The Mobile Urban is definitely optimized for daily commuting and overnights. You could fit a small soft bag, or even a garment bag, on the Mobile Urban's handle.

If your commuting and traveling circumstances cry out for a better way to carry your computer gear (or maybe it's your shoulder that's doing the crying), you may want to try wheeling a Mobile Urban around the luggage store show room. You certainly can't find a better built, or more cushiony, mobile case.
