As Billy Idol used to say: "Leather. Everyone looks good in leather." Kensington has taken its well-constructed, well-designed Sky Runner laptop computer case and produced an all-leather version of it.

The case has all the features of the original matte nylon version: top-loading single-zipper main compartment, padded center computer pocket, organizer pocket with zipper pouch and cellphone pocket, two additional outer pockets for Zip drive, modem, etc., and heavy-duty fittings and construction.

The leather version has a leather hand grip that's slightly thicker than the original and a padded shoulder strap. One of the neat features of the strap is the shoulder rest. It's curved so it rests comfortably on your shoulder (curving to the contours of your neck). It has rubber ribs under the rest to help keep the bag from slipping (the original was made of a smoother material). The inside of the case is lined with a PVC-coated nylon that helps to further protect the contents. The original was only 2.4 lbs. and its light weight was one of its selling features. The leather version is 3.5 lbs. It also costs $99 as opposed to the original which you can get for under $70.

So is the leather worth the extra price and weight? I guess it depends on what your needs are. A leather jacket--that I'll wear, but I don't think a leather carry-on bag is really my style. I'd certainly recommend a Sky Runner. I've already put a few miles on the nylon version and have nothing but good things to say about it.

The leather version certainly does smell good! It's been fragrancing the Street Tech Labs ever since I pulled it out of the box. Where are my handcuffs and whip?
