Chances are there's a local agency near you that'll take your old computer
equipment off your hands and get it onto the desks of those in need. Here's
a partial listing of such agencies, organized by state. Check with your local United Way office or in the community services section of your phone
book for other options.
By the way, it's worth noting that if you're looking to receive a computer, there are probably much better ways than calling these organizations. Most of them only give their machines to not-for-profit organizations -- not individuals.
